He's all excited about the whole thing, but he's worried that the guy is going to cheat on him. He wants to make sure that he doesn't slip and fall, but the guy won't let him do that. The protagonist is all, "I'm not going to let you cheat on me, because you're such a jerk. I'm going to make you promise not to do anything to me again, and then I'll tell you all about how awesome it was to meet you in the first place" .
