The next morning, Huck finds himself in a hot spring town. He's worried that he's going to be eaten alive by the locals, but he doesn't want to worry about that. Huck asks how he managed to get a hotel reservation on such a short notice, and the hotel clerk tells him that it's not uncommon for last-minute deals to be cheaper than the original price. Huck wonders how much the foot bath is costing him, and wonders if he should pay for lunch instead of the bath. The hotel clerk says that they can boil eggs in the bath while they're there, but they can only do so if they want to stay in the hotel's lobby. Huck is bummed that he can't use the hotel lobby while they are in the water, and he wonders if there's anything he can do about it.
