In this chapter, Pan Wenhan's dream is interrupted by his wife's nightmare. Pan tells her that he and his wife are in the middle of a game of cards, and that they are not willing to sacrifice their lives in order to save his wife and him. He tells Pan that he is pregnant with Pan's child, but Pan does not tell him further about the pregnancy, as he is not in the game. Pan tries to convince Pan that the pregnancy is a lie, but he is unable to convince him. Pan realizes that he must be the leader of the group, and he gives all of his points to the non-player, who is the fifth-best player in the group. Pan is amazed that he has been able to receive such a generous gift.
