About This Chapter
In this chapter, Shmoop explains how the game of Breath-Holders is played. He explains that the starting point of the game is 20 and that each player has to hold his breath for a certain amount of time. If the player's score reaches zero, he or she will be thrown into the water. However, if the score drops below zero, the player can exchange his or her scores with another player in order to stay alive. The player with the lowest score can ask the other players to exchange their scores for a chance to survive. The game will end if the player who has the highest score dies in the first round. The second round is the most important round, because the player whose score drops to zero will be asked to exchange scores with the other player with a higher score. The exchange scores will not be filled until the point at which no more scores are needed. The next round is even more important, because everyone's lungs are fixed. Everyone's capacity to hold their breath is determined by their first round score. If a player has a score of 10, the second round will be even more critical. If he has the same score in the third round, the game will be over. The only problem with this is that the person with the higher score will be able to ask for a trade with the lower-ranking player. The person who scores the highest will get the highest exchange score.
