This chapter's epigraph comes from a conversation between Mercado and Desdemona, in which Mercado reveals that he is his own child. He explains that he has come to rescue Desdemonas because he wants him to be safe. He tells him that he will be rewarded with a "powerhouser contract" that will allow him to return to the "path of a powerhouse" .
