In this chapter, we learn that Jack has been planning to kill the captain of the ship, the Flying Dutchman, in exchange for the black pearl. The captain, however, is not willing to part with the pearl. Instead, he offers to negotiate a deal with Jack in which he will give Jack the pearl in return for the captain's freedom.
