In this chapter, the lieutenant tells the audience that he has come to investigate the murder of a couple in their home. He tells the story of Kim Soohan, the first suspect in the case. The lieutenant explains that the couple's daughter, Park hyein, was a classmate of Kim's at school and that Kim had been in love with her ever since he was accepted to the university. Kim was beaten by the friends of the victim and later admitted to a hospital, where he died.
