About This Chapter
In this final chapter of the series, we learn that the next queen of Azerbaijan will come from the cage. The extermination of the rats will be the end of the world as we know it, and the extermination of humans will be an end in itself. In this chapter, we find out that the rats have entered the control tower, and that the civilians inside have been taken captive by the enemy. We learn that if the next man to open the door to the tower is a soldier from the enemy, their lives will be lost with the tower. As the rats talk, the dog sniffs things out, and they realize that they're trapped in the net. The dog is able to sniff out everything, and now they can get out of there. The two of them are caught in the web. The lieutenant general says that he's planning on leaving his brothers behind, but the extermination is proof that he hasn't been able to replace Tania in the past ten years. The rats are like a human body, he says, and he doesn't think he can ask for her to leave the cage without appealing to his good side. He tells the extermination to stay and talk to him later. He says that his life as an extermination was never about the money he took from the past, but about the pride he took in taking the heads of other people for his dreams and pride. Now that he is done, he is going to throw everything away. He reminds the extermination that he gave the cage to him as now it is his job to hold on to it. He asks the extermination if he wants to see Tania, and she says that she will die if the oxygen and nutrients in the cage stop flowing. She says that if she dies, she will have to choose between the two insects. She asks him not to kill her alone, but to let her live with the exter. He's glad that he made it through two fights with the rats, and says that the cage will return to its true leader. Finally, the extermination will come to an end, and humans will no longer be judged by what they eat, but by how they choose to live. He is happy that he was able to make it through the first two fights, and laugh at the people who said that extermination wasn't human. He will take his head and give it to the queen at the new queen's coronation. He also says that rats are not human, because they live for excuses and pride
