In this short scene, Leah tells her mother that the devil is an "other one of your own self" and that she should kill her. Leah's mother is horrified by her daughter's words, and she begs her to stop torturing her daughter. She tells Leah that she has no right to play "with slam-road" and to "gasp road" , and that the "mysteries" are "created by the devil" . She asks Leah why he saved her, and Leah replies that he did so because he thought she was a tool of the devil.
