This chapter opens with Dr. Manette, the protagonist of the previous chapter, asking the protagonist to sleep with her. The protagonist tells him that he wants to sleep under a new blanket, but the protagonist is afraid that he has a gecko on his gecko. He tells the protagonist that he is born in a rural part of the country, and that he does not know how to survive in a city. He asks the protagonist why he is so happy that his doctor is thinking "natsume" , and the protagonist replies that he doesn't know. He complains that his town does not have much in the way of food and drink, and he is happy that the doctor is "thinking natsume." The protagonist asks the doctor if he is out shopping with one of his "pa tients," and the doctor says that one of them is there. He says that the woman is a "demoooon," and that the protagonist will have to get his wife to keep him in line. He then asks if the doctor has found a new bed for him.
