The narrator tells us that he's lost his sense of time. He can't imagine the future anymore. He's worried that he won't be able to survive if he doesn't take care of his house. He also worries that people will think that he is weak or a coward. He wonders if they should follow the people who have left the town. They've been told that they can stop the disease, but now they have to go out and kill the undead. They don't know how to trust them, since they've told them that they're going to kill the zombies and come back. The narrator is worried about his friend, who was working in front of the house when the explosion happened. He wants to kill him, but nobody has the guts to do it. He thinks that the undead look horrible, too. He was expecting a light or something, but it didn't work. He had to run out of the building, and now he thinks that his friend is dead.
