The next morning, the three men return to the coleridge school, where Willoughby has been laid off. The three men discuss the death of their employer, which they believe to be a suicide. They decide to keep the body of the dead man's employer a secret until they can find out more about the cause of the death. They also discuss the whereabouts of the other two men who dined with thorpe at the Nelson Club in London in October of 1937. The men discuss their plans for the evening, and they all agree that they would like to have dinner with the other man. They then discuss the identity of the man they saw at the club, who they believe was the sultan. They all agree on the fact that thorpe had a lot of money, which is why he went to the club in the first place. After dinner, they decide to have a drink at the bar, and the men discuss how leo got him to hire a man to guard the entrance of the bar. The man is named Peter Wilks, and he works for the French intelligence service, the l'c's. Wilks tells the men that he is a member of the "triumph" of the intelligence services, the "trium" , and that he has been assigned to the task of "diplomacy" between the two services.
