Book 3 opens with a flashback to the days when dragons were hunted down and killed by the people. The narrator tells us that thousands of souls were lost during the first few years of the war, but that the dragons turned more cunning and attacked more frequently. In one night, a hundred cities and castles fell to the mercy of the dragons. Adam tells the audience that he has a plan to save them all. He tells them that his father loves him because he loves his father's heart. He says that the people will demand the green dragon's blood if they don't surrender the egg. He adds that he doesn't know why the people are demanding the egg, but he does know that his mother would have wanted it.
