About This Chapter
When he was younger, Chiyomatsu had no name. He thought that he had no memory of having a name, and if he searched in the dark, he would find the cause of his lack of name. When he came to the shop, he was shocked to find that no one had a name. The shop owner, however, was glad that his wife had died, because it was not something that they needed to hide. He and the shop owner were worried about the appearance of the gutter rat, and they decided to stay in the shop because they did not want to see him wandering around the town everyday. When they heard that he was staying in the town, they were ashamed for thinking that he might have done such a thing. They were worried that he would be an eyesore, and that his presence would make the town look bad. They decided to keep the shop open so that they would not have to see the "Gutter rat or something." When they learned that the man had been in town for so long, the shop owners were ashamed, and chiyomatsu felt ashamed that he did not know that he could have done something like that. He wanted to kill him, but he was afraid that the townspeople would not be able to greet him, and so he drew his sword.
