In this short scene, we learn that Lin's mother, Miyuan, has decided to drop out of college and move to the United States with her son, who is now a student at the University of Pennsylvania. After Miyuan's public announcement that she's leaving school, the elder mangmang comes looking for her. He's not happy to see her, but he's also worried about her safety, so he leaves her a note saying that he'll be back in a week.
