In this chapter, we learn that Ching-yu's father, the apple-father, has passed on his credit card to his daughter-in- law, chuan-teng. Ching-ying's mother, who is now married to Ming-zhe, tells us that she went to the city hall on August 16, 1983, to register her son's name, hoping that he would become a good person and give her monthly allowances. But for marriage, she says, it's her fault if the son isn't
