The narrator explains that he's not trying to find the man. He's just trying to figure out how the woman got into this situation. He wants to know how she got into it, and how she ended up hooking up with the man she was supposed to marry. He also wants to find out what happened to the doll that she gave him when they were in love, and what she's been up to since then. The narrator says he'll be waiting for her at the hotel.
