In this chapter, we learn that the new emperor of the empire, Phillip, has broken off his engagement to one of his ladies-in-waiting, the princess of Portugal, and has summoned all the remaining ladies from various countries to court him. We learn that Phillip has broken his engagement with the princess, and that he has summoned the ladies from all over the world to court his new bride. The ladies are shocked to see the new king, but they are also shocked to learn that all of them have come to court the new prince.
