In this chapter, we learn that the family's son, Zhe, has rejected his grandfather's proposal of marriage and has become a rebellious young man. His father, Guohua, is furious at his son's behavior and tries to calm him down. He tells Zhe that he is 70 years old and will be celebrating his birthday three days from now. Zhe tells his father that his son has grown up since he refused to marry Zhe. He urges his son to stop going against his father and reconcile with his grandfather. He also tells his son that he will not be seeing his father out. When Zhe asks his father if his leg is okay, his father replies that the leg is fine and that everything about Zhe is good. He then asks his son why he does not want to get married. He asks Zhe if his stutter affects him, and Zhe answers that it does not.
