This scene opens with a flashback to the beginning of the novel, when the young protagonist, Sebastian, is still in high school. He is now a law student at the law school of his father's employer, where he has been working as an assistant to Sebastian's uncle, a small-time lawyer. Sebastian, who has been acting since he was a child, is shocked to learn that his uncle is actually his brother-in-law. He asks Sebastian if he is his brother in law, and Sebastian replies that he is, although he is not officially a member of the law. Sebastian then asks if Sebastian is his nephew, possessed, or even his own brother. Sebastian tells him that he has already broken up with his uncle, who is a jerk, and that he was with Sebastian for four years, but he never noticed that Sebastian was so good with whining and acting. When Sebastian asks if he missed him, Sebastian says that he did not hear him, but that he rumbled hungry. Sebastian apologizes for his rudeness, and says that the matter with him and his uncle was a misunderstanding.
