In the woods, Ling tells her brother that he still has something to settle. He tells Ling to hurry up and get the heck out of the house. He says there's a bomb under her feet that's connected to 10 more bombs, and if she moves, it'll explode in 20 minutes. Ling says she can either escape with him or she can die with him. They live together, they die together, and she won't ever leave her behind. She tells her mom that if she dies with him, she'll hate her family, and that now's the best chance she's ever had to get away from him. She gives him her phone and tells him to stop talking nonsense. Ling tells his mom that he fell into their time bomb trick and that he stepped on it. If the bomb explodes, it will be impossible for Ling to escape. He'll send a bomb expert over immediately to defuse the bomb, and then he'll let Ling go. Ling thanks his mom for saving his life, and he begs her to let him go.
