She asks if he has ever tried to "understand" him, and if he thinks she deserves to see him. The Governess tells her that she is mistaken, and that she should not restrain her from seeing him. She then goes on to say that she has heard a voice, and so she came to see if she could hear the voice correctly. She hears the voice and runs away.
