It's the morning of Haruki's second date. He's been waiting for her all day, and now he's ready to go. He kisses her, and she's so happy that she doesn't even want to go back to work. She kisses him, too, and he kisses her back, too. The narrator tells us that this scene is a "work of fiction" , and that Haruki is the only person in the world who's actually in love with her.
