When the monster opens his eyes, he realizes that he is not dead. He is a koi, a fish that can be traded for money. He tells the monster that his name is ziyu, and that she is an orphan. She was supposed to have been sold as slave to another side of the ocean by slavers, but when she got sick, they threw her overboard. After she came to him, he realized that she was a human. He wants to eat meat, but the monster tells him that it is not fun. He says that he wants to get out of the sea with his friends. They have a pearl that can exchange for money, and they can buy lots of meat. The monster says that his father told him that no one could leave the ocean of fallen dawn, but that he can play by himself. He gives the monster a scale that will let him pass through the sea barrier, but he waits for his friend to come back to him.
