In this chapter, the peacemaker tells us that he's been spending a lot of time thinking about the future of the kingdom of al-and-moria. He's spent the last three weeks reading about their history and imagining it in his mind. He tells us, "I filled an emptiness . . that was being driven them into despair" . The peacemaker says he'll take a nap, and then he and cian will get back on the boat. He asks cian if he can call lia, and she tells him to wake up. She tells him that she's calling him outside, and that she wants him to go outside. She asks him to think about what he can do when he stops sailing, and he tells her that he read about the "flying fish mystery" in the paper three weeks ago, but no one has found them. cian says that it's too late for them to change their location, and they'll just have to stay where they are. He says that he will try to get out of the water, but that he can't figure out who the pirates are hiding. He also says that they're hiding someone " thudding a pirate ship" , which is a reference to the fact that the pirates have a ship of their own. They need to act fast, he says, but cian and lucas need to take the ship to a safe place. He promises to go see what the pirates want, and says he won't hurt cian in the process. He apologizes for hurting cian, but he says that fighting is pointless. He borrows a small boat from cian to get back to his kingdom, and tells cian that he needs time to get the magic back on .
