In this chapter, we learn more about the Kafka family. We learn that he was orphaned when his parents died, and that he is now a fugitive from justice. We also learn that Kafka's mother was a prostitute, and he was raised by his father. Kafka tells us that he has tried every trick in the book to find a way to get rid of his mother, but nothing works. He wants to know who her parents were, and why he wants to kill her. He asks if he is still alive, and if he can still sing a weird song. He says that if he were a kid, he would have asked for a girl at the office, and now he has an excuse to leave.
