In this short scene, the narrator tries to protect himself from the heat of the moment. He tells himself that he cannot "promise" that he should "suck" or "puck" the hot air from his neck. He then tells himself to "plop grab shudder" and to "protect the nape" of his neck from the "sucking" of the air. He also tells himself not to touch the "poop" and not to kiss the air that is "getting numb" to him. The narrator feels as though he is "being eaten" by the "hot air" and wishes that he were a different person.
