In this chapter, the young narrator is trying to teach an airhead writer how to write about love. He tells her to "stomach it cracked" and "crack it open" . The young narrator, however, is not having any luck. She's been writing for three days and hasn't received a reply from her lover. She asks the answering machine to send a message to him. The answering machine tells her that he's busy and won't reply for a while, but she's not sure why.
