The narrator tells us that he once played a game called "kanamaru" before he fell asleep. He explains that it's a bad luck game because the lucky player gets to wear the special glasses that are supposed to protect him from bad luck. The narrator says that even though he gave the lucky guy a token to ward off evil, he didn't do it because he was afraid of losing the game.
