The scene opens with Toshimitsu, a college friend of the protagonist's, arriving at the apartment where the protagonist is staying. He tells the protagonist that he and his friend have just met and that he is already dissing him. The protagonist, however, is determined to prove himself worthy of his friend's affections. He asks the protagonist to move the apartment so that he can get some of his money back, but the protagonist refuses, saying that he would rather have the apartment repaired than have to pay more for it.
