About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a conversation between Toshi and his wife. Toshi tells his wife that he's exhausted from the day's work and that he wants to go to his room to get some fresh air. He asks Toshi if he can open his slippers and grind the seeds for the spiced chocolate he'll make for the day. He tells her to go ahead and open them and grind them. He'll chop up 100 grams of chocolate and then add 65 g of sugar, 2 eggs, and 2 tsp of cinnamon. Then they'll mix up the chocolate with the eggs and cinnamon and sprinkle the baking paper on the cake pan. When they're done, Toshi says, they should put a third of whipped eggs in the chocolate mixture and then sprinkle the spices on top of that. Wow, what a surprising combination of spices! He's tried cardamom-spiced chocolate from India before, but he couldn't get enough of it. He wants Toshi to help him use the spices in his spiced chocolate so that he can use them up in his curry. He compares the curry to the way he eats in India. He says he can taste cumin, turmeric, coriander, cardamom, garam masala, cloves and star anise, almost like he is eating in India . He also says that most men can't stand looking at women because they are so self absorbed. He doesn't understand how Toshi could be so interested in women when he is older and prettier. Then he says that she's talking about how he pays attention to and looks at women, but that she spun it in a totally different direction.
