The next morning, satoru wonders if he'll ever get married. He's got to pay back his debt, he says, but he can't think about the future. He receives a letter from the couple he helped organize their wedding, thanking him for his help. Satirtu says he's glad that the next couple seems happy in his thanks. He asks to be guided, and the next thing he knows, he has a cake waiting for him. It's his birthday today, and he was looking at his own profile when he called off his wedding. He says he wants to know if he has some thing he wants, and if it's something that will help him pay off his debt. He tells the story of how he came to live with him, and how he feels grateful to him. He admits that he had someone who he was supposed to marry, but that her family business ran into financial trouble, and she had to marry a partner of hers. Satire, he tells us, is the same as his. He doesn't have the power to go after her, and his parents have already made up their minds about her marriage.
