This chapter opens with the narrator lamenting the fact that the time has come for him to become a teacher. He admits that he was once a teacher, too, but that he is now determined to get information out of the brat. He says that he will use this opportunity to get revenge on the brat if he is rude to him. He tells the narrator that he hates studying, but he realizes that he does not really know how to read or write. He wants to know more about the brat so that he can learn more about him. The narrator tells the brat that he has written a love letter to him and asks him to give it back
