In this short scene, the young Miss Jessel tries to convince the old man that he and the young woman were indecent in their cargo bed. The old man, however, is not convinced. He thinks that the two were looking away from each other while they were driving, and that they should not blame each other for the other's indiscretions. The young woman, meanwhile, is horrified by the sight of the two of them. She wonders if they are the demon king and the bride of the king, and wonders if she could be his wife. She is also horrified to learn that the village in which they live is known as the "Lord Demon King" and that every few years they offer their young women to be his "bride" as a sacrifice.
