In this chapter, we are introduced to a number of characters. The first person we meet is a young woman named Heidegger, who is in love with a young man named Damis. Damis is the protagonist of Damis's play, which Damis has written. The young man, Damis, asks Damis to come to his house to discuss the play with him. Heidigger agrees, and Damis goes to meet him.
