In this chapter, the narrator laments the fact that he is unable to cook for himself. He tells the reader that he was just a child when he learned to cook, and that his father never came to help him learn how to cook. The narrator wonders what will happen to Mr. Kurokawa after his son's debt to Onda is paid. He asks the history manager at the brothel if he is still considered a worker there. The history manager tells him that he has had sex with no one other than Onda in the past month and that the previous day he was "fucked senseless" by the brothel manager. He says that if he says good-bye to onda, he will go back into the brothel. He wants to know what is going on at Onda's brothel.
