He tells them that he wants to make sure that they know as much about the case as possible, so that they can try to figure out what's going on. The narrator says that the suspect in the case is a member of the Kyokukyou-kai, a group within the yakuza clan that is suspected of lending money to people who don't owe them money. They're also suspected of tax evasion and underreporting their income.
