About This Chapter
The ship's captain, Donovan, and his son, Evgeny, are on board the ship when a huge wave hits the coast of Alaska. Donovan tells them that he's seen a ghost, just like the one he saw in high school. He's not sure if it's the ghost of Donovan or someone else, but he does know that the ghost is back to steal his wife. He also tells Donovan that he and his wife have two kids, a dog, and a mortgage on their house. They've been married for three years, and he joined the military when things got really bad. He almost died, but a strange man saved his life. The next day, they're on their way back to the ship, and Donovan asks how his little mermaid is doing. He says that she's gotten used to life on the Alaska coast, and that she looks just like a duck in water. He asks if they'll see a whale in the next couple of days, but Donovan says he hasn't given up hope. He knows that Donovan has feelings for him, too, because he used to take him out on the boat when he was a kid. He wonders if he still has the boat.
