The chapter opens with a flashback to the night before, when the Governess and Yumi were having sex. The Governess is embarrassed at the sight of his wife's penis, but he is pleased to see that Yumi is having sex with him. Yumi begins to avoid him, and one day she asks him to put the boxes of her belongings in her room so that she will not have to worry about him coming in and out of her room. The boxes seem to contain some of Yumi's old diaries, which she wrote while she was still in the orphanage. She seems to have written a lot about what she likes, and he wonders if he might be able to find some of it in the diaries. He also learns that his sister has been going out to "hostess bars" and that he saw her there with an older man.
