The scene opens with a furious tirade by the Governess against her lover, the Deputy Manager. She tells him to stop, but he refuses to listen. He tells her that he has wanted to meet the man, and she calls him a bastard. The Governess calls the police, but the man refuses to come out of his house. She calls him drunk and says that he is pretending to be nice to her. She asks him if he is going to tell her husband about her situation, and he replies that he will. He then asks her to have a drink. She says that she is already feeling "tipsy" because she has been through so much. She then asks if he could stop being "nosey" and drink his alcohol. He replies that she has no idea how to live a good life. He asks her how she keeps her breasts looking good. She responds that she must have had a lot of hard times, but she says that no one had any idea how hard she had to live. He grabs her and says he will just touch her for a while. She pulls him away, saying that he should not behave this way when he is right there with her. He says he knows what he is doing and that she will wake him up because of him
