In this short scene, we meet Little Em'ly, who has come to visit her childhood friend, Mariane. Mariane is upset that Mariane has come all the way from her home in the Midwest to see her. She tells Mariane that she is upset because she feels like she is being teased for being a girl. She says that when she was a little girl, her parents tried to give her a sibling, but Mariane was too young to be a sister. She asks Mariane if she thinks Mariane loves her, and Mariane says that she does not. She then tells her friend that she needs Mariane's help in overcoming her crush.
