About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he's not thrilled with the way things are going with his childhood friend, who's in a class with a boy named Minoru. He thinks that the boy is getting closer and closer to his own son, and that he and Minoru are nothing more than "child hood friends" . Uh-oh. The narrator says that he brought his friend's class with him, but that he forgot to give it to Minoru when he left it at school. He's glad that he gave it to him, because it's clear that they're always together in class, and he doesn't care whether he gives it to the boy or to the other. He says that the two of them are always together, and they've always been together since they were little kids. When they get home, the narrator asks the boy what he wants for dinner, and the boy says he wants a stew or something, but the narrator can't get over the fact that he always wants the same thing from the boy. He wonders why she's ignoring him, since he always smiles at her when she refuses to give him what she wants. She says that she'll never be able to tell
