The narrator complains that he cannot sleep with the house and the tutor, Hayate Masaoka, who is two years older than him. He tells Hayate that he used to be in love with him, but it turned out to be a disaster, and now he has to teach him all sorts of things. Hayate says that he eats only bentos, which is what his parents are not home to eat. The narrator says that his brother approves of his cooking, but he still hasn't gotten a letter from his mother. He says that someone has been making a meal for him, and that it has been awhile since someone has done so.
