This chapter opens with a flashback to a time when the narrator was a senior at a high school. The narrator tells us that he heard rumors about a "super smart rose prince" who had been admitted to the top class of his class. The rumor was that the prince had scared the "quaaack" , the principal of the school, who was the representative of the new students. The rose prince had no intention of hiding his thorns, the narrator says, and the rose had no desire to hide its thorns. The story ends with the narrator's first love, a girl named Enda, who is now 21 years old and has just completed her third year at a university called Tokyo. Enda's father, a 32 year-old man named Broth, is a frequent visitor at the bar where the narrator lives with Enda. Broth tells the narrator that his brother, a student at the university, has returned home, and that he has grown boobs and sniffles at the sight of his brother's "final home." The narrator swears that he will work for a "top tier company" and "become a millionaire" one day. He wonders where his parents went when he was a child, and he wonders if his brother had a true identity once he got into college.
