The chapter opens with a soliloquy by Hiroshige, in which he explains that he is the only person in the world who has ever seen the "plain lewd face" of his lover. He tells his lover that he has been having an illicit sexual experience with him. He also tells him that his sister warned him about it, but he did not tell her until now. He explains that on Valentine's Day, he ate chocolates with aphrodisiacs in them, and that he put some in his lover's chocolate lates. He says that he thought they would not work, but then he realized that they did. He apologizes for not telling his lover about it earlier, and says that they had never spoken before that day. He admits that he always thought that his lover was scary, but in reality, he is nothing but "that." He tells her that if she does not want to go out, they can't continue having sex together.
