In this chapter, the narrator explains that he met ningyuan at the construction site. They were together for two months and never spoke to each other. He says that ning yuan has the only memory in his life, which is that he has none of the hatred, fear, or abhorrence that other people have towards him. He explains that when he was a child or a grown-up, everyone was full of fear, hatred, and abhorrence towards him, but only ning ning has no of these. The narrator says that she hopes to be with him forever, but that nice times are always short. Later, people saw her and took her away from the shelter where she had been staying. She says she does not want to leave him, and begs him to let her go home.
