The next morning, Mr. Dupuis and Mr. Hu are still at the house, and they're both worried about what's going to happen to the clothes that they bought for their daughter. They don't know what to do, since they bought the clothes for her from the same woman who promised to pay for her brother's debts. They're also worried about how they'll be able to get rid of the clothes without ruining their reputations, since the clothes were bought for them by a woman who's clearly not their real mother. They decide to throw a party for the whole family to see if they can figure out who the real mother is.
