This chapter opens with a conversation between a man and his wife. The man tells his wife to "watch where you are" and to "beware of the cheating wife" . He tells her that he does not like her and that he will not let her have any more children. He also tells her not to worry about the fact that he is still in love with another woman. He says that his business is not as big as his wife's, but that it is still difficult to make people work as he wants them to work. People are a "clump of ego" , he says, and if they do not work, then that is that. He then tells her to praise the people who do work, and then praise them again. The woman says that she will not move, and the man responds by saying that a person will "swallow" and "become" him. She then tells him that he has not taken the day off that he had planned to take, and he says that he thought he would take a day off to do something else. She tells him to look at the store, which is not working, and that she had been there before.
