The scene opens with a soliloquy by the boss, who introduces himself as "Tamashi ichi" . He tells the audience that he and his wife have been having an affair for the past few days and that he is worried about his wife's reaction to the news. He asks the audience to imagine what it would be like to be called upon to perform a sexual act in front of a group of people, and to imagine how he would react if he were to be asked to perform such an act. The scene ends with the boss's wife, "Yamada" , telling him that she has been called to work and that she is afraid that her husband will be angry with her if she does not leave immediately. She tells him that he should prepare himself for such a situation by making himself at home. The boss tells her that she should prepare herself for such situations by making herself at home, since she will also be called to perform the same act. She says that she will leave immediately, but that she must make an excuse for her behavior. She then tells him to get out of the way and let her be alone with the man, and he agrees to do so.
