In this short scene, the Underground Man continues to rant about how he's not a model, and how he can't live like that. He's been getting a lot of hate mail, and he doesn't know how to respond to it. He decides to go to sleep, and wonders if the girl in the commercial is the same girl he used to hang out with at the same school. The Underground Man says that the girl has been "chasing after handsome boys" ever since he graduated from high school, and that he hasn't heard from her since. He wonders why she's still living like that, and decides that he'll write a letter to the editor about it.
